Syria
Government
Improvement Objective
The Syrian government needs to lean towards a democracy.
“Although citizens ostensibly vote for the president and members of parliament, they do not have the right to change their government.”
Required outcome
The government needs to listen to the people.Although the Syrian people have the right to vote, their votes are not meaningfully considered in a federal election, but that should be the main factor of who should be elected. The people need to have individual rights that are unalienable and can’t be taken away at any cost. The Syrian’s should be able to speak against the actions of the government without the government attacking them for their opinions.
“Although citizens ostensibly vote for the president and members of parliament, they do not have the right to change their government.”
Strategies
- Rather than using armed soldiers to control people who are voicing their opinions, only when its at the point where the protestors are becoming violent.
- The government needs to listen to the people’s civil disobedience and take into consideration what they’re saying.
“The Damascus Declaration is a civil society reform document written in 2005 and signed by a confederation of opposition parties and individual activists who seek to work with the government to ensure greater civil liberties and democratic political reform. The government has shown no hesitation in suppressing those who advocate for human, legal, or minority rights.”
Support
The US will help Syria lean towards a democracy.
“Still, the U.S. has been supporting groups working for democracy in the Mideast. Along with many in the region, the U.S. hopes that good and lasting change will come soon, if not immediately”
Responsibilities
The government needs to meet the required outcomes:
The government needs to make the citizens feel safe and give them a say in the decisions that are made.
Support: U.S.
- The U.S. is trying to implicate “by the people for the people”
- They want what’s best for them, and they believe democracy will solve all their problems.
“Still, the U.S. has been supporting groups working for democracy in the Mideast. Along with many in the region, the U.S. hopes that good and lasting change will come soon, if not immediately”
Consequences
- As of now, the Syrian civil war is already out of control and if it the government doesn’t seek peace then Syria will reach complete havoc
- Without a democracy, the people will continue to fight against the government for the freedom that all people should have
“The genie of war is now well and truly out of the bottle in Syria and its creeping malign presence is sure to be felt far and wide for some time to come.”
